This rare postcard, salvaged from a damp box, shows the castle almost as it was originally built. The Clock Room has not yet been added to the Tower in front. The room with awnings on the left is the Breakfast Room with the Master Guest room above it. These rooms were not part of the original construction but were added several years later on top of the huge patio. Below them is the Servants Dining Room and two floors of bedrooms for the servants. A tunnel leads from the Maintenance Room in the castle basement, under the Tennis Courts to the North Boathouse. The rooms with awnings on the right are the Sun Room and Loggia built on top of the Library. They have been reconstructed and the Master bedroom built on top of them.  The large square room at the top of the castle is the Map Room. originally this was Commodore Bourne's private study and was only accessible by the secret passages, today it has been opened and is accessed by the main stairway. The iron fence is gone and so are the Tennis courts but a lush lawn takes their place today.
